Australian Christian Reformed Churches (ACRC)

We are part of a national reformed church, with our roots in the church as it was in Jesus' time. Our faith has its foundation from the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. We follow the path of a German monk called Martin Luther and a French preacher named John Calvin. They found themselves at odds with the Roman Catholic Church and Luther was excommunicated. Ideological support grew for the movement and a decision was made at an international Presbyterian/ Reformed Synod in 1618-19. The Synod spelled out the five points of Calvinism in a document known as the Canon of Dort. These are well known in the form word TULIP (Total depravity, Unconditional election, Limited atonement, Irresistible grace and the Perseverance of the saints.

The CRC grew rapidly in Europe and spread to North America. After World War 11 there was a large migration of people from Europe to Australia and New Zealand. A measure of people from the CRC in the Netherlands and South Africa came to this country, and the church was established and grew. It held its first Synod as a regular denomination in 1952 and the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia was formed.
